There are many gymnasiums in the Sacramento valley, but we love International Gymnastic Centre because, well, it’s close to us. And also because they have open gym on Saturdays from noon to 2:00pm. And because they let under-3 Theo play for free during that time!
Not to mention that the gymnasium is huge and includes a roomy gym-play area for the smaller kids. We try to go at least once a month. This is the first time I’ve brought the nice camera (though you’ll see a few video stills below too, from prior trips.)
Today we dallied a while in the Wal-Mart toy section beforehand (Vlady was on the hunt for Hot Wheels tracks, but lacking that browsed around for quite a while.) Then we ate at IKEA. By the time we got to the gymnasium, there were only 30 minutes left of open gym. We made do!

In the kids’ area are two trampolines. This one is adjacent to a foam pit. Theo exhausts himself sometimes, repeatedly jumping from trampoline into pit and climbing out to bounce again.
Crash! into the soft foam cubes…
And climbing up…
To jump in again.
Nearby, a little lady enjoys the shelter of a foam archway.
This is the other trampoline in the kids’ area, which Theo is sharing with another toddler. There are at least five trampolines total in this gymnasium, and the kiddies get two of them.
Vlady now tells me he wants to set up a bar like this at home. At present, he has to slide a broom between two chair-tops to give Theo something to hang from.
Across the gym, two young men compete in a rope climb to the ceiling.
A young lady practices some dance moves while entwined in aerial silks.
Another young lady performs a flip.
This young man approached me excitedly and asked if I was a photographer, and would I like to take pictures of him and his friends. I was delighted to.
Another contest, this time crossing the mat on hands.
What looks like a break dance move turns out to be a bit of a fall from a handstand.
Theo jumps from a spring platform into a large foam pit in the back corner of the gymnasium.
A young lass demonstrates the trapeze, swinging out over the foam pit.
A demonstration on the parallel bars. I wish I’d gotten a shot of when he did a little pushup.
Theo travels down a very long trampoline, bouncing the whole way. This trampoline is used by a lot of the gymnasts for doing spectacular flips.
These ropes/rope swings run alongside and behind the extra-long trampoline.
Continuing his workout, the young man from earlier spins around a bar at least a dozen times in a row.
Another shot of the kids’ area. There used to be a trapeze hanging down in the middle here too, which Theo loved to swing from, but it’s disappeared. One trampoline is in the foreground, and one in the background with its elevated foam pit.
This young lady asked if I would like her do a leap for me. Of course I would!
Theo winds up our trip on this extra-bouncy yellow trampoline. The red rectangle indicates where you should stay inside of, so as not to bounce yourself right off the side.
Wee! He is a happy little boy.

Theo’s now napping very soundly. He gets an amazing work at the gym!
